We had food, that wasn't the problem
We were not starving to death. We had food. Food wasn't the problem, the lack of variety paired with our animal-like appetites was the problem. We were running out of meat though, due to a virus that wiped out most of our livestock. For generations, we were able to maintain a balance and those among us who wanted meat could have it. However, when it became a rare commodity, it was shocking to see how many people resisted becoming vegetarian or vegan. There are even rumors of cannibalism, but I refuse to believe that any of us could resort to such a drastic measure.
